Critical Reviews

Citation of O.A.A. Jury for Design of the Millcroft Inn:
Recycled Buildings win top Architectural Awards
On the Millcroft Inn project the Jury said that tranquility and wholesomeness best described the accomplishment of this fine development and that the architects were to be commended as much for the perception of the project as for the specific architecture and carefully executed detail.
O.A.A. Press Release December 9 1977.

Citation from Heritage Canada for the National Award of Honour
For an outstanding contribution to heritage conservation in Canada. The jury cited the architects for the imagination and taste they displayed in taking advantage both of the building's architecture and unique surroundings
Heritage Canada October 1978

George Banz , architect in "Symbolism and Style in Housing":
When handled with sensitivity, as in a recent design by Peter Hamilton in Toronto, the language of modern masters for an instant regains its richness.
Canadian Architect, August 1978.

Maclean's Magazine, " High tech is simply a steel ":
...architect Peter Hamilton, whose design of a high- tech house, was recently voted one of the most beautiful in Toronto.
December 11 1978.

The Future of Canadian Architecture by Anthony Jackson:
Two works by Peter Hamilton published in this critical treatise.
Library of Canadian Architecture 1979.

Gerard Faure on Peter Hamilton in Architectes Architecture:
...il porte allègrement 17 ans d'une experience et d'une pratique extrêmement sures dans les réalizations vouées aux loisirs.Notamment les bibliothèques, qui à Toronto, quartier après quartier, sont parmi les plus belles, les plus agréables et les mieux conçues du monde. ...il est, si l'on peut dire plus..."ludique", champêtre que bien d'autres. ...la Nature, si chère aux Canadiens y trouve toujours son compte.
Juillet - août 1987.

Adele Freedman in the Globe and Mail:
...The same degree of thoughtfulness has been applied to another recent project, a residence in Willowdale, Hamilton has been free to compose a symphony. The house is remarkable for its subtle orchestration of space, light and materials. The Globe and Mail February 27 1987

Adele Freedman profile Site Lines:
From Hamilton, savvy modernist, we have learned to expect handsome, flowing, light-filled spaces. Characteristically, his architecture leans toward simple forms, white interiors and sophisticated use of industrial elements and materials: few can match his way with glass block .
The Globe and Mail March 25 1989

O.A.A. jury comments on 103 Dupont Street:
The adaptive reuse of a residential building for a graphic design studio is remarkable for both its urban integration and for its high graphic impact. Using modest materials and simple forms, consistent with the often two-dimensional scope of graphic design, the architecture explores flat and seemingly folded surface projections to maximum effect.
Canadian Building, April/May 1991.

Trisse Loxley article: “Modern Living”
To shake up the old rules of modern style, a few unexpected elements are tossed in. A kitchen at the front, a lowered library floor, throughout the living library and second floor, medium density fibreboard was laid, the library's floating shelves with hidden supports form a clean studious at-home work space.
Style at Home October 1997.
